My Story

Ainsley May is an amateur potter who lives and works in Merrijig in North East Victoria. She makes functional hand-thrown pieces on the pottery wheel to be used every day in the home. Her work is made in stoneware clay which she hand dips in a vibrant range of glazes and fires in her kiln in her home studio.

Ainsley finds inspiration for her pottery in the world around her and glazes her pieces in the colours she sees in the landscape. She loves knowing that each piece she creates by hand is completely unique.

Ainsley began her pottery training in 2017 in Mansfield with Wendy Jagger. She participated in Wendy’s ‘Wheel in a Day’ and was immediately hooked and then completed 3 and a half years of ceramic classes with her.

In 2020 Ainsley decided to commit more time to pottery and set up her own studio at her home buying a wheel and kiln.

She participated in M.O.S. T. - Mansfield Open Studio Trail for the first time in 2021 and now sells her work from her studio in Merrijig which is open by appointment.

You can see some of Ainsley’s work on her Instagram page (link above).
