My Story
Ann Knights is a ceramic artist whose practice began later in life, following years dedicated to raising a family and running a business. After taking several short ceramic courses, she discovered a lasting connection to clay. In 2018, she commenced formal studies at the School of Clay and Art (SoCA) in Melbourne, where she honed her technical skills and developed a distinctive personal style through a focus on art and design.
Working from her studio in the hills near Alexandra, Victoria, Knights creates hand-built stoneware vessels using slab and coil techniques. Her process is intuitive and often unfolds without a predetermined plan, guided instead by a sensitivity to natural forms and textures.
Much of her inspiration comes from the landscape—especially the mountains and forests of North East Victoria, a region she has lived in and visited for many years. Her work draws on the contours of mountains, rock formations, distant horizons, shifting skies, and rural patterns.
Rather than represent these elements directly, her vessels aim to evoke a quiet familiarity—inviting reflection, memory, and emotional connection through their organic forms and layered surfaces.
