My Story

Murray Chenery’s return journey to painting has been 50 years in the making.

His passion for all things creative was evident from a young age leading to courses in art and design, architecture, and then marketing.

Murray loves the creative process of combining his different fields of knowledge to explore networks of associations, find hidden patterns, and make connections. He is motivated by massaging his thoughts and exploring how his mind interprets things – using all his previous work experience and personal character in this interpretative process.

His internal creative thinking extends beyond what he can see physically with his eyes. He explores the structure of objects using the language of shape, colour, texture, composition, and contrast to reveal these unknown areas and interpret them, and then extend his emotion into his work.

He wants the viewers of his work to experience and think of his journey and story wanting them to share the sense of connection from his perspective.

Murray is the recipient of many marketing awards and accolades, including the coveted Sir Charles McGrath Award for significant contributions to the field of marketing. His successful corporate career and passion for creativity are now a backdrop for his return to his artistic roots.

When asked what inspires him? …………. Murray replies “John Olsen’s feeling and joy of colour, Fred William’s ability to capture the essence of nature; and the depth and fullness of a Led Zeppelin song.”
